"Nano Ka"

Przyjaźń, miłość, nieustająca potrzeba poszukiwania sensu, ciekawość świata i innych, empatia, radość życia... To wszystko o czym zapominamy z wiekiem... Jedyne 'ryzyko' pospektaklowe to nasilenie w odbiorcach potrzeby pielęgnowania dziecka zarówno w sobie jak i w innych.

"Darkness" - first work-in-progress performance

place: Art_Inkubator in Fabryka Sztuki in Lodz, 3 Tymienieckiego Street

Admission is free.

The Darkness - it was. It is. And it will be. It surrounds me and it is in me. The Darkness. Is it something bad? No. That's why I'm afraid to embrace her? Darkness reminds me of a black cat, it fawns at my feet, it jumps on my chest and sticks its claws deep in my skin. Darkness isn't something. It is a lack of something. Yet, sometimes I want to nestle in it, and stop the movement of matter.
"Darkness" - is the next stage of cooperation between CHOREA Theatre and blind and visually-impaired young people. This is the result of a six-month workshop practice, and also an attempt to answer the question: what is the meaning of darkness in our lives, and how it is perceived by people who are struggling with it every day. Is the darkness so terrible and evil as it is commonly perceived?

DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE:
System is like an inextricable labyrinth. When trying to find a man inside of it, one comes across a human being hunched under a protection layer of mechanical conducts, sprockets and facades that he takes on an everyday basis. Basic needs disappear being overloaded by the information that is coming from all directions. Our instincts have been trampled. Nowadays we are seeking balance between being mechanical and vivid, and sensitive. We are struggling with system, that has dragged us so hard that it changed the shape and boundaries of human being. How not to get mechanical? Answer /Not Found/

INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Project „Take Over: Seeing young audiences through young people’s eyes” is an international and educational project of CHOREA Theatre, directed to women and men aged 18-28. It has been carried out with Kolarac Foundation (Serbia), Bios-exploring urban culture (Greece), Teatro delle Limonia (Italy) from 2014 to 2017 in the partnership with British Council within the programme of the European Commission „Creative Europe“. The keynote of the project is gaining an audience. Young participators of the project will prepare an artistic event in the areas of dance, music and theatre in two years. It will be a reflection of desires, changes, and aspirations of contemporary young generation, connected with the broad notion of culture. The entire event will be invented, designed and produced by the young, and directed at their peers. Although Take Over, a theatre by the young, has a purpose of keeping current audience, most importantly, it's aimed at getting new, young receivers of CHOREA Theatre.

This is not a performance about refugees who have suddenly lost the roofs over their heads and have to head out into the unknown. This is not a performance about those who know where they come from, but don’t know where they are going. This is not a performance about people who have lost their loved ones but still want to live. This is not a performance about those who are losing everything but still hope they will be able to start their lives anew.
The Crack is a performance about you, about us, who have roofs over our heads and plenty of food to eat, but who do not yet realise that we can lose it all, at any moment; that suddenly we can be thrown into the unknown. This performance is about our fears and about finding hope. And about the fact that each one of us is, was, or one day will be a refugee, usually not of our own free will.
Six women and one man try to tell, through words, movement and singing, very ordinary stories of people who have lost everything, and have nothing left but hope. Hope, which sometimes turns into a survival instinct, and sometimes into an acceptance of its loss.

Direction and stage design: Tomasz Rodowicz
Text  based on the text of the Norwegian playwright Arne Lygre, translated by Elizabeth Frątczak-Nowotny, and using fragments of poetic texts written by Rumi

"Szczelina" / 'The Crack' is a performance created by CHOREA Theatre, based on the text of Norwegian playwright Arne Lygre, translated by Elizabeth Frątczak-Nowotny, and fragments of poetic texts written by Rumi.
This is not a performance about refugees who have suddenly lost the roofs over their heads and they have to move into the unknown. This is not a performance about those who do not know where they are going, they just know where they came from. This is not a performance about people who have lost their loved ones, but they still want to live. This is not a performance about those who are losing everything, but they still have hope, that they will be able to start their lives anew.
'The Crack' is a performance about You - about us - who have roofs over our heads and plenty food to eat, and we still do not realize that we can lose it all, at any moment. That suddenly we can be thrown into the unknown, just because someone, without warning, might drop a bomb on our town, or poison our water, or decide that we do not have any rights to live in our city anymore. This performance is about our fears and about finding hope. And about the fact, that each one of us is, was or one day will be a refugee, usually not by his own choice.
We are reading newspapers and watching news every day. At times we feel like wanting to escape to a Noah's ark, or at least to Nepal. But thanks to the work on this performance we have created a chance to feel less helpless. (this may sound terribly naive, but that is how I feel). Maybe that's because the struggle with our own helplessness begins form talking about it and not turning our eyes away from what is happening. We are looking for a crack and a stream of light which could shine through it, and for a chance to reach the other side of despair.
Six women and one man are trying to tell, through words, movement and singing, very ordinary stories of people who have lost everything, and have nothing left but hope. Hope, which sometimes turns into a survival instinct, and sometimes into an acceptance of loosing it.
I hope that, thanks to our performance, despite day to day growing aggression and fear against the OTHERS, we will be able to see people in them. People like us. When the demons will be gone, maybe then we will begin to talk...

Vidomi is an attempt to answer the question of what seeing is and what it is not. Do we realise the meaning of the sense of sight? By confronting the visually-impaired with the sighted, we are trying to develop alternative working techniques to overcome the physical limitations. We use the synergy of impulses – words, sounds, touch, movement – to create our own language for communication. We are learning to see with our whole bodies and to discover the world based on a different kind of seeing which does not have to be limited by a physical impairment or the ‘blindness’ of the mind, or by stereotypical judgments. This kind of work in theatre lets us go beyond the borders which the society puts in front of us in our everyday lives. Theatre becomes a medium in which differences between us become a creative tool. Visual impairment does not need to mean life in the dark. How do you see it?

The group is made up of young dancers who took part in CHOREA Theatre’s outreach and artistic projects such as Oratorium Dance Project (2011) and The Ugly (2013) and of pupils from Special Education and Care Centre No. 6, Łódź. The group has met regularly since 2014 during dance and theatre workshops. Vidomi is the outcome of one year of work under the guidance of Janusz Adam Biedrzycki and Magda Paszkiewicz. Two new scenes were added to the show in 2015.
